Meet the Puppies
Meet the Parents
Canelo (father)
AKC registered Golden Retriever
8 years old – clean bill of health
Canelo is a playful yet calm Golden Retriever with a traditional American Golden Retriever coat: dark, long, and waves and feathering on his chest, neck, and tail. He weighs 65 pounds and is 23 inches tall. Based on his temperament, Canelo would have made a perfect service dog or therapy animal.
Rhea (mother)
Golden Retriever
3 years old – clean bill of health
Rhea is a rare and stunning red Golden Retriever. While some of her litter mates were lighter, Rhea inherited her mom’s mahogany colored fur. When Golden Retrievers were first bred, red puppies were typically reserved for bird hunting. Perhaps as a result of this ancestry, Rhea often likes to carry something in her mouth. One of her favorite things to do is to pick something up and trade it for a treat. She has us very well trained. Rhea weighs 55 pounds and is 21 inches tall. Rhea is often found fast asleep, belly up with her paws floating in the air. She is energetic and fun-loving and would have made a great search-and-rescue dog. She also made some frickin’ cute puppies, though this will be her only litter. She’s been a very diligent mother, but will also be ready to return to being the baby of the family once her puppies have permanent homes. Rhea does not have papers. You can view her genetic testing Wisdom Panel results here.
Lastly, Meet the Human
Gail lives in Fort Collins with her two dogs, cat, and flock of chickens. Gail has always loved and owned animals. In her early life she strongly contemplated going to vet school, before choosing a career in chemistry and raising three children (your humble author being her oldest). It was always her dream to have a litter of puppies. It’s been a lot of work tending to the litter, but ultimately a labor of love assisting Rhea and the puppies around the clock. She made sure each puppy latched and nursed and had their fair share of milk, and often guided puppies back to Rhea and the litter whenever they wiggled away and “got lost” before their eyes were open. Not surprisingly, these puppies are extremely well socialized. It’s hard to imagine litters from professional breeders receiving quite as much love and care once puppyhood has become old news for them. Since Gail is going to spay Rhea after this, and since it was a one time experience, Gail has been savoring every moment and raising the best, most friendly and healthy puppies she can. And she has.

Kitty Invent has no affiliation with these puppies besides agreeing to host their temporary page, only because they are awfully cute. Who could deny a puppy, let alone a whole litter?
